Dual Laminate Headers used in Sodium Chlorate Processes

Prolite Plastics Ltd. has provided specialty fluoropolymer lined FRP headers for many sodium chlorate manufacturers for over 25 years.

Recent testing by the Swedish Corrosion Institude has led to the introduction of ECTFE lined FRP piping for Hydrogen rich gas streams and more recently Ausimont MFA fluoropolymer lined FRP piping for feed brine lines and sodium chlorate collection lines.

In lower temperature applications CPVC and PVC lined FRP piping have provided sufficient corrosion resistance. As processing temperatures increased, different material pipe liners were tried. One of these materials was FEP which was installed as a loose liner. FEP loose liners have continuously failed due to collapse under vacuum conditions and also water vapour permeation of the liner.

The ECTFE and MFA liner materials have proven to be more permeation resistant. Furthermore, with proper bonding techniques to the FRP structural laminate, the liners are sufficient to resist full vacuum. The ECTFE and MFA lined FRP products are also less expensive than exotic metals such as titanium.
